No matter your skills or experience, there’s a place for you to make a lasting difference at camp. Volunteers must be 19 years of age and must complete a Volunteer Application form and get a Criminal Record Check.
Some campers need a little extra support to make the most of their camp experience—and that’s where our One-to-One Volunteers make all the difference.

As a One-to-One Volunteer, you’ll be paired with a camper who may benefit from additional encouragement, assistance, or companionship throughout the weekend. Whether helping them navigate activities, building confidence to try something new, or simply being a trusted friend, you’ll help ensure every camper feels included, supported, and celebrated.

Not every One-to-One assignment involves physical or medical needs. Often, your greatest role is being a caring, positive presence who helps a camper fully participate in the magic of camp.

If you’re patient, compassionate, and ready to make a lasting impact one camper at a time, this may be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you.

As a Cabin Leader, you’ll help create a fun, welcoming, and supportive home away from home for a group of campers. From leading cabin activities and cheering campers on to sharing laughs and making memories, you’ll help foster friendships, build confidence, and ensure every camper feels like they belong.

Nurses

Our volunteer nurses are at the heart of the camp experience, helping ensure every camper can safely enjoy all the fun camp has to offer. Working alongside our medical team, nurses provide routine medical care, administer medications, respond to health concerns, and support campers throughout their stay.

Beyond their clinical expertise, our nurses offer reassurance, compassion, and encouragement—helping campers and their families feel confident and cared for in a supportive environment. As a volunteer nurse, you will:

– Provide routine nursing care within your scope of practice.
– Administer and document camper medications.
– Monitor camper health and respond to medical needs.
– Collaborate with our medical team to ensure a safe camp experience.
– Help campers participate fully in camp activities while feeling supported and included.

Oncologists

Licensed oncologists who are interested in volunteering with Camp Circle O’ Friends are encouraged to contact us by email or phone. We’d be pleased to discuss the role, answer any questions, and provide information about our volunteer application and screening process.

Our volunteer lifeguards help create a safe, fun, and confidence-building waterfront experience for every camper. Whether campers are swimming, playing water games, or trying something new, lifeguards provide attentive supervision while encouraging everyone to participate safely.

Beyond keeping watch, our lifeguards bring enthusiasm, encouragement, and a positive attitude to the waterfront—helping campers build confidence, make memories, and enjoy every splash.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF CABIN LEADERS

First Evening/Morning
Wednesday
  • Orientation of volunteers
Thursday
  • Assist in general camp preparation
Camper Arrival
  • Campers will be ARRIVING AT NOON and will have lunch in the main dining hall immediately after taking their things to their cabin.
  • Meet buses and identify the campers in your cabin.
  • Bring your campers and their luggage directly to the cabins.
  • Assist with getting campers settled in cabin.
  • Play a quick game to get to know everyone!
  • Introduce camp rules and establish individual cabin rules.
  • Assist with orientation of campers to the camp.
Camp Daily Activities
  • Lead with enthusiasm and flexibility.
  • Ensure your campers receive their medication at breakfast, lunch, supper, and bedtime.
  • Assist with assigned cabin (getting dressed, meals, general hygiene, etc.) Meal Service: Each camper will go through the buffet style line. Be sure to help serve the portions to the campers. Cabin Leaders will also get their meals with the cabin.
  • Encourage group building.
  • Assist Rec Links in instruction and guiding your group.
  • Model appropriate behavior and troubleshoot when necessary. – Remember that you are encouraged to bring any concerns to the camp director.
  • Observe group and note possible problem behavior.
  • Be available and accessible to the group.
  • Encourage development of trust in the group.
  • Be aware of and sensitive to individual camper needs.
  • Ensure campers use proper hand-washing and hygiene techniques.
  • Cabin leader break is available from 4:30 PM until 6:00 PM with the exception of times when Rec Links are responsible for the preparation of their area.
  • Relief can be arranged at any time. Please do not hesitate to ask a med shed volunteer.
Post Camp
  • There will be some time after breakfast to get the campers packed up. The buses leave right after the closing ceremony. Make sure that ALL camper luggage is properly tagged to go back to either Saskatoon or Regina and is clearly marked with the camper’s name.
  • Double check the cabins for belongings left behind by the campers.
  • Clean up your cabin and surrounding area.
  • Pitch in for general camp clean-up.
  • At the staff closing, give recommendations, comments, ideas, wish list, etc. for Camp Circle O’ Friends 2015 to Gayle Morris

Camper Arrival
  • Meet camper at bus and accompany them to their cabin
Camp Daily Activities
  • Ensure child is never left unattended.
  • Encourage camper to participate in all possible activities.
  • Seek alternate activities when appropriate.
  • Golf carts/wheelchairs can be arranged when required for transportation.
  • Utilize the quiet room when needed.
  • Remember you are responsible for being with your 1 – 1 at all times.
  • Relief can be arranged when required. – Please do not hesitate to ask a Med Shed volunteer.
Post Camp
  • Clean up your camper’s cabin and surrounding area.
  • Pitch in for general camp clean-up.
  • At the staff closing give recommendations, comments, ideas, wish list, etc. for Camp Circle O’ Friends 2014 to Lindsay Jones.
Not all one to one assignments have physical needs. Many times the role is simply a “buddy system” for those who are unable to keep up with the general group.

Pre Camp
  • Organize your activity
  • Coordinate with co-workers in your area
  • Plan back-up activities if your activity relies on weather
Wednesday
  • Preparation of your activity/activity area
  • Assist other recreation personnel with set-up
  • Introduce yourself to your cabin link(s)
Thursday
  • Assist in general camp preparation
Camper Arrival
  • Meet buses and identify the campers in your cabin
  • Assist cabin leader in settling campers into cabin
  • Be with cabin leader when going over camp rules and establishing individual cabin rules
  • Assist with camper orientation.
  • Utilize the quiet room when needed.
Morning/Meals/Evening
  • Assist with assigned cabin (getting dressed, meals, etc.)
  • Meal Service: Each camper will go through the buffet style line. Be sure to help serve the portions to the campers. Cabin Leaders will also get their meals with cabin. Rec will line up in the buffet style line as well.
  • During cabin leader break (4:30 PM to 6:00 PM) take charge of assigned cabin
  • Get involved in activities and encourage your group
Activity
  • Lead with enthusiasm and flexibility.
  • Organize/assist as job requires
  • Be prepared
  • Be aware of and sensitive to individual camper needs
  • Care for and monitor equipment
  • Have back up plan for rainy days
  • It is important to remember that you have a dual role as activity coordinator and Rec Link – Be available to your cabin as often as possible!
Post Camp
  • Clean-up your activity area
  • Complete inventory of materials/equipment for your activity and submit to Brittani Olson
  • Pitch in for general camp clean-up
  • At the staff closing give recommendations, comments, ideas, wish list, etc. for Camp Circle O’ Friends 2014 to Brittani Olson

Being with your cabin during the first afternoon and evening will greatly enhance your camp experience and that of the campers

VOLUNTEER CODE OF ETHICS
As a volunteer of Camp Circle O’Friends Inc., I promise to adhere to all ethical standards contained in this code of ethics.
  • I will not discriminate because of race, color, religion, age, gender, sexual preference, or national ancestry and will attempt to prevent such discrimination from occurring.
  • I agree that I will respect the belief systems of all persons with whom I come in contact with at camp. I will not discuss religion or any other belief systems in an effort to have others accept my belief system.
  • I believe in the dignity of the individual and their right to self-determination.
  • I agree all individuals need to be treated with respect.
  • I agree to abide by all the guidelines of Camp Circle O'Friends Inc.
  • I agree to maintain confidentiality.
  • I will perform all assigned tasks to the best of my ability.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF VOLUNTEERS
  • Children are not allowed to be left unattended at any time. Relief is available and can be arranged when required.
  • Our camp is staffed with a clinic psychologist and any problems should be addresses to her. Volunteers are not to physically reprimand a child at any time.
  • Our camp is based on the fundamental principle that children are to explore and develop personally and socially. All activities are aimed at this goal. Each volunteer is expected to participate in each activity assigned to his/her group, even if it isn't a favorite activity.
  • All volunteers are expected to support and assist as required.
  • We are pleased to offer you a smoke free environment.
  • Illicit drugs at camp are prohibited.
  • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
  • Be available to your group.
  • Spend time with individuals in your group and get to know them well.
  • Follow-Up with any problems, conflicts, etc.
  • Campers come first. Staff is at camp to make certain that campers enjoy themselves and participate fully in the program.
  • Share camper problems and situations that are important with the appropriate committee member.
